What a week!

This is the week of, "Huh?" At least in the school universe. The huh comes from the fact that we have two whole days of school this week, count 'em, two. While the junior high and elementary schools may be able to get something done, which I highly doubt, in high school I only see each class once. This means that this is a school week of one day. One day before a long weekend.
Even if I bothered to teach something to the children that actually show up, there is no way their of-the-moment-learning-style could ever harken back to recall the information. I usually set it up so that this week is a work week, where nothing new is introduced and those that deign to show up are rewarded by not needing to come in before or after school to complete their projects. I did this incredibly intelligent planning for this week. I was so happy that I wouldn't have to worry about teaching anything that I would just have to reteach in a week.
At least I was happy until about an hour into being at school, when I suddenly asked myself, "Wait, why am I here?" This is the first year I really realized how dumb I am. If I have everything planned ahead of time, rather like I do for a substitute teacher, then why don't I have a substitute teacher? Since I had to be my own glorified babysitter I decided to pass the time in an artistic endeavor. Seeing as I didn't have any truly exciting bunny ideas, I decided to do this instead.
Obviously he's not done, and seeing as he was supposed to be something else entirely, something faster, I don't know that I ever will finish him, so I thought I'd put him out in the ether, rather than hiding him in a demo sketchbook, where he currently resides.

Faculty Meeting

Okay so this isn't an exact conversation, but it would have been if I was brave enough to be snarky at faculty meetings.
Notice if you will the Benedict Cumberbatch/Sherlock rabbit.

Hysterical

More Cartoons for Sanity

Well, I did another one.

It's just because I have all of these ideas stored up, soon the well shall run dry, unless those few of you that actually read this blog have ideas/stories you are willing to sacrifice.
By the way, this conversation really occurred.

Okay, so this probably wasn't the best use of my time today, but...
Also, I'm pretty sure I've stolen the idea behind this from somewhere. Apologies to whoever inspired this.

Cartoons for Sanity

Okay, so it's not well scanned or edited, but I thought I'd share my means for keeping sane during parent teacher conferences this last week.

A 32nd trip around the sun

So far my 32nd year on this planet has been full of, well, events. I, for the most part, live an uneventful life that is simple and easy to forget. This year, however, I have been surrounded by memorable and unforgettable events. So much so that I actually remember how old I am, and rather than telling people (and by people I mean students, since they are the only ones that ask) an age I've latched onto like 35ish, I know in my head how old I am and I then tell them "old enough."
Cataloging my year so far I have encountered both good and bad things, and what follows is an overly simplified list.

Bad news first: Piriformis Syndrome
The death of two remarkable souls - Zoe and Cooper
Getting someone fired

Now for the Good news:
The birth of my best friends remarkable son
Chile
Getting someone fired

Now that I've simplified the year into two tiny list I wonder at their importance, and yet these things have defined the year thus far. I am both afraid and excited to see what the rest of the year will bring.

Chile!

Wahoo! I am going to Chile for my Birthday this year! I'm very excited about this. I've got to start my research and relearn Spanish, both of which give me something wonderful to think about other than the upcoming track season that is already here, ugh. So Chile! Yeah!
